Hot summer days, hardly any air. A woman seeks coolness, circling between window and kitchen table, day and night. The television on the table spews images, in the window even during the day a star twinkles. Only the dog that appears at the door can elicit a smile from the woman. An intrusive neighbor seeks contact: by the window, at the door and eventually even at the table. What is going on here? What is driving this woman, that star, that dog, and why is there suddenly a pool of blood on the kitchen floor? It's up to the audience to reconstruct the story in this text-laden play that looms before you like a picture puzzle.
In Silence of the Dogs, Ada Ozdogan depicts the resistance of a lonely woman in a hectic and threatening world. Once again she does so with a nod to the film world: Hitchcockian suspense meets Tarentino-like violence meets Chantal Akerman's eye for the female experience.
Excluding consumption.
ABOUT ASA OZDOGAN
Ada Ozdogan af from directing school in Maastricht and works around the themes of identity and ideology. At Het Zuidelijk Toneel , she made the critically acclaimed Holly Goosebumps. This "epic blockbuster on play" was immediately embraced by press and public alike.
Ada's work is characterized by a strong visual language that stems from large-scale form studies. In her work, she is interested in characters who resist social norms and the gaze and prejudices of others that imprison them. In her translation to the play, she engages with pop culture and our common frames of reference.
ABOUT HET ZUIDELIJK TONEEL
