Train to Busan | K-Wave

Yeon Sang-ho
Tue 13 Oct 20:30

Seok-woo boards the high-speed train to Busan with his young daughter. While a mysterious virus spreads outside, an infected passenger turns out to be on board. Train to Busan is a breathless zombie thriller that combines relentless action with a surprisingly human story about fatherhood, solidarity and survival.

Divorced businessman Seok-woo devotes most of his attention to work and far too little to his daughter Su-an. For her birthday, she wants only one thing: to visit her mother in Busan. Reluctantly, Seok-woo joins her on the high-speed train from Seoul.

Just before departure, an injured woman manages to get on board. She is infected with a virus that rapidly transforms people into violent zombies. As the outbreak spreads across South Korea, the passengers must fight their way through the train. Every carriage brings a new danger, and the greatest threat does not always come from the infected.

Director Yeon Sang-ho turns Train to Busan into a breathless combination of zombie horror, action and social criticism. Beneath the panic and bloody confrontations lies a story about selfishness, class and how much we are prepared to sacrifice for others when society begins to collapse.

Train to Busan is part of K-Wave, a series exploring the global impact of Korean cinema. The film is spoken in Korean and presented with English subtitles.
