Mesut, the brother of the local leader, who is tormented by visions he interprets as divine warnings, is at the center of the story. His beliefs lead him to question his brother’s authority. The land dispute thus escalates into a power struggle in which religious conviction, paranoia, and revenge are barely distinguishable from one another.
