Nizar Nouri walks with his nephew Achraf and their goats along the Mejri Trail on the rocky slopes of Mount Mghila. They are on the border between government and jihadist territory. Nizar wants to show Achraf the untouched paradise that reigns in these mountains. But disaster strikes mercilessly. Suddenly, Achraf wakes up next to Nizar's severed head. "Show it to your mother, and maybe then you'll all learn not to come here anymore," he says.

With a sports bag growing bloodier by the minute, Achraf loiters, wishing he wasn't the one to break the news to Nizar's mother, Mbarka. As Achraf wrestles with guilt, grief, and the psychological aftermath of Nizar's death, the villagers force him back to the mountain. He must accompany his family to retrieve Nizar's body. Red Path is a painful elegy about a stolen childhood in areas ravaged by war and conflict.

Poor economic circumstances may force you to drop out of school and start working. You may be forced to choose between the jihadists and the pro-government organizations. Your loved one may be beheaded, and you may have to pull yourself together to go on living. Either way, the film takes the viewer on a dreamlike journey through a child's tormented psyche and the incredible ability to overcome their trauma.
