When reed cutter Johan (Gerrit Knobbe) finds the lifeless body of a girl on his land, he is struck by an indefinable sense of guilt. While caring for his granddaughter (Loïs Reinders), he searches for answers and tries to track down the evil.
Rietland was selected for the Cannes Film Festival as part of the prestigious Semaine de la Critique program, where a film by a Dutch director was shown for the first time in 27 years. Rietland has been praised by the international press and is the closing film of the Netherlands Film Festival. The film is also part of the selection for the Golden Calf competition and is the Dutch entry for the Oscars.
