Playtime (4K Restoration)

Jacques Tati
RELEASE Thu 30 Jul

Playtime follows two parallel storylines that eventually intersect in a hypermodern, gleaming yet disorienting version of Paris. A group of American tourists arrives at Orly Airport for a brief visit to the city, while Monsieur Hulot simultaneously tries to find his way through the same environment in search of work.

In this world of glass, steel, and reflective surfaces, Hulot is constantly disoriented. Connections are hard to make, conversations go wrong, and the city itself feels less like a recognisable place than a labyrinth of modernity. The tourists and Hulot move independently through the same spaces until their paths eventually cross in the newly opened, upscale restaurant Royal Garden, where the modern façade slowly begins to disintegrate into organised chaos.

The film has also been restored in 4K, allowing its architectural precision, visual layering, and Tati’s meticulous choreography of people and space to come back to life with renewed clarity and impact.
