Sinners fuses southern gothic, Delta blues and 1930s noir into something bold, stylish and completely unlike a traditional horror film. Set in the sweltering American South during the Great Depression, the film weaves vampire folklore together with themes of religion, racism and colonialism. Blues music pulses through every scene as a raw expression of Black emotion, identity and resistance, giving the film its heartbeat as everything slowly spirals further out of control. Ambitious, uncompromising and impossible to ignore, Sinners made history with a record-breaking number of Oscar nominations.
