In KAMELEON , theater maker Sadettin Kırmızıyüz explores what it means to keep changing color. He switches between roles: at home the good Turkish son, on play the culturally responsible migrant and in talk shows the nuanced Dutchman with a multicultural background. For years, he saw this as a talent: the ability to adapt and move effortlessly between worlds.
But now there is his daughter.
Because of her white skin, the world suddenly seems to check him differently. In the playground, bakfiets parents chat, and when a police car drives by, he no longer feels like a possible description. Her whiteness seems to rub af on him: from "that Turkish man" to "just a father."
Until he raises his hand when his daughter asks who is white.
And she corrects him.
In KAMELEON identity constantly shifts: by the gaze of others, by the times in which you live, and sometimes by your own child. With humor and sharpness, Sadettin shows how we all change color - often without realizing it.
Excluding consumption.
