Peter is a New York club promoter who is never ready for the night to end. Together with his best friend and business partner Sophie, he throws parties, knows everyone who matters and moves effortlessly through the city’s queer club scene. His life revolves around music, alcohol, drugs and the next night when it all starts again.
Then ten-year-old Arlo arrives. He is Peter’s son, whose existence Peter knew nothing about. Suddenly, a man who can barely look after himself is responsible for a child. Arlo enters Peter’s chaotic world while Peter tries to understand what being a father is supposed to involve.
Club Kid brings together two worlds that appear to have very little in common: New York nightlife and the everyday reality of unexpected parenthood. Beneath the music, bravado and sharp humour lies a surprisingly warm story about growing up when you are already years too late. It is about the family you are born into, the people you gather around you and whether a committed partygoer can ever truly go home.
Jordan Firstman wrote, directed and stars in Club Kid. Firstman became known for his comedy videos on social media and previously appeared in productions including Rotting in the Sun and I Love LA. For his feature debut, he assembled a cast that includes Cara Delevingne, Diego Calva, Reggie Absolom and Kirby Howell-Baptiste.
The film premiered in the Un Certain Regard section of the Cannes Film Festival and was subsequently acquired by A24. The result is an energetic, funny and unexpectedly tender film that knows the best club nights sometimes end somewhere you never intended to go.
