In this powerful directorial debut by Harris Dickinson (Babygirl, Triangle of Sadness), homeless drug addict Mike (Frank Dillane) tries to get his life back on track after a stint in prison. He finds work, a roof over his head, and even a tentative new relationship. Mike longs for peace and stability, but on the streets of London, a misstep is always lurking. The hopeful yet self-destructive Mike not only reaches his own limits, but also encounters a system that repeatedly fails him.
Harris Dickinson, who also plays a role in addition to directing, sketches a raw and compelling character study in Urchin, balancing social realism and black absurdity. The film had its world premiere in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, where Frank Dillane broke through with the Best Actor award and Harris Dickinson was awarded the prestigious FIPRESCI prize for Directing.
