74-year-old Maria (Carmen Maura) enjoys a quiet life within the close-knit Spanish community of Tangier, a vibrant coastal city in Morocco. Her world is turned upside down when her daughter Clara (Marta Etura) arrives from Madrid to sell the apartment where Maria lives. Refusing to be forced out, Maria fights to hold on to her home and her memories. In the process, and much to her own surprise, she rediscovers love.
Calle Málaga won the Audience Award at the Venice Film Festival. Actress Carmen Maura became famous as Pedro Almodóvar’s muse and appeared in many of his early films. According to Deadline, the film is “a lovely ode to growing old but not giving in to age, to living life as it is meant to be lived – on your own terms.”
