A masterful documentary about the volcanic islands of Cape Verde, where wind and ocean shape the lives of animals and humans. The stunning images, combined with the enchanting music of renowned Cape Verdean composer Vasco Martins, make The Coriolis Effect an unparalleled ode to life on earth.

In the middle of the Atlantic Ocean lies the archipelago of Cape Verde (Cabo Verde). This is where the hurricanes that annually ravage the Caribbean and the United States are born. The islands naturally face many limitations. Those who live here must be persistent. Whether you are a goat, a human, or a turtle, if you want to build a life here, to bring forth new life, you must demonstrate vitality.

The undisputed protagonists of the film are the sea turtles, majestically floating in the ocean or utterly adorable and vulnerable on the beach, stealing the show. These islands are one of the most important breeding grounds in the world for them. They lay their eggs on the beaches where they were born. This prehistoric animal plays a key role in several origin myths; the turtle carries the earth or is the earth itself. The enormous perseverance with which the baby turtle overcomes all obstacles on its path to the life-saving ocean, the human being on an island, just as at the mercy of the elements as the animals, demonstrates their will to live against the odds in a rapidly changing world.

A magnificent film that touches on the overwhelming and ineffable nature of life on earth.
