When Iranian film director Sepideh Farsi tries to travel to the Gaza Strip in April 2024, she's denied entry. Her plan to document life under Israeli siege is thwarted until she connects with Fatma "Fatem" Hassona, a talented young photojournalist from Gaza City, and Fatma becomes her eyes on the devastated territory.

Through video calls, the two women discuss the young photographer's life: her remarkable vitality, her hopes, her fears, and her tears. From Fatma's home, a rare human perspective on an inhumane existence unfolds as she simultaneously reports on the bombings and destruction. The women maintain contact for over 200 days, until Fatma and her family are also killed by an Israeli airstrike—one day after the film's Cannes selection was announced.

Put Your Soul on Your Hand and Walk is an urgent and moving portrait of a young woman who laughs, grieves, loves, and continues to dream amidst war. Sepideh Farsi's documentary combines raw directness with intimate conversations, showcasing daily life during the genocide, captured through video calls and Fatma's powerful photo essays. The murder of Fatma and her family on April 16, 2025, forever changed the film's meaning; her voice and images now form a powerful tribute to all lives under attack. a tribute that resonates far beyond the film world after its premiere in Cannes.
