When Sherida suddenly realizes she has to give a presentation about the brain — completely unprepared — chaos erupts. As she tries to bring order to her thoughts and daily life, she is involuntarily drawn into her own mind. There, she relives moments from childhood memories, a marriage marked by infidelity and violence, and pain that had been buried for years.
Uma (H)Ati (woman’s heart) brings raw themes such as intimate partner violence, suicidal thoughts, PTSD, and infidelity to the stage with honesty and humanity. It reveals the impact of trauma on the brain, and how faith, music, and breaking the silence can open the path toward resilience and recovery.
Sherida accompanies herself live on piano, alternating heavy, emotional scenes with moments of humor and hope. The evening opens with a reading by city poet Terence de Lange and concludes with a panel discussion featuring, among others, Steven Brunswijk and Mandele Wee Wee, reflecting on trauma and recovery.
Uma (H)Ati is a call for awareness, compassion, and breaking taboos — a tribute to women who, despite their pain, learn to stand again with open hearts.
