During a weekend in the countryside, Laura, a piano student from Berlin, miraculously survives a car accident. Physically unharmed but deeply shaken, she is taken in by Betty, who witnessed the crash. Laura enjoys Betty's motherly care and the company in her picturesque country house, where her husband and son also slowly open up to her.

It is an almost carefree, happy time, a late summer dream to which Laura and her family are only too happy to surrender. But something is wrong, a deep, dark pain that connects them but remains unspoken. Slowly but surely, the past catches up with the four of them and Laura has to come to terms with her own life.

In Miroirs No. 3, director Christian Petzold tells an intimate and mysterious story about the fragility of life, loss, despair, and love. With his recognizable poetic and warm visual language, he gives shape to complex human emotions, where music, silence, and a glance often say more than words. The fourth collaboration with his regular muse Paula Beer – after Transit, Undine, and Roter Himmel – earned Petzold a premiere in the Quinzaine des réalisateurs program in Cannes, where his unique style and strong acting impressed audiences. Petzold modeled his film on the structure of Maurice Ravel's piano cycle Miroirs, the third part of which is called Une barque sur l'océan (A boat on the ocean).
