Marathon Month | Dune Part One

During Marathon Month, Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part One returns to the big screen. Before the film, you will see a special video greeting from the cast.

The year is 10191. The Emperor assigns House Atreides control of Arrakis, an unforgiving desert planet and the only place in the universe where spice can be found. This immensely valuable substance makes interstellar travel possible and grants its users extraordinary abilities. Whoever controls Arrakis holds unimaginable power.

Young Paul Atreides travels to the planet with his parents. While his father, Duke Leto, attempts to cooperate with the native inhabitants of Arrakis, it becomes clear that their new position is part of a deadly political trap. Meanwhile, Paul is haunted by visions of a mysterious woman and a future he does not yet understand.

Denis Villeneuve takes the time to make Frank Herbert’s complex world feel real. The architecture is monumental, the desert seems endless and Hans Zimmer’s score reverberates through the cinema. Yet Dune: Part One is not simply about scale. Beneath the spectacle lies a story about colonialism, natural resources, religion and a young man burdened with a dangerous destiny.

Timothée Chalamet stars as Paul alongside Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Zendaya, Jason Momoa, Josh Brolin and Stellan Skarsgård. Together, they form the heart of a science-fiction epic that does not try to explain everything at once, but gradually draws you into an entirely new universe.

During Marathon Month, we present Dune: Part One as it was meant to be experienced: with a gigantic sandworm, a thunderous soundtrack and no pause button within reach.
