Les vacances de Monsieur Hulot (4K Restoration)

Jacques Tati
RELEASE Thu 30 Jul

Les Vacances de Monsieur Hulot is set in a seaside resort on the Atlantic coast, where holidaymakers bring their urban habits to a place intended for peace and relaxation.

Into this setting arrives Monsieur Hulot in his old, noisy car, with the simple intention of enjoying his holiday. However, his naïve and clumsy nature unintentionally causes a series of minor disruptions and misunderstandings. Although his intentions are always good, his actions repeatedly create gentle chaos, gradually disturbing the peace of the hotel guests and upsetting the seemingly serene holiday atmosphere.

Les Vacances de Monsieur Hulot marks a fundamental turning point in Jacques Tati’s work, introducing the character of Hulot in full for the first time as a catalyst for subtle chaos in an apparently orderly world.

The film has been restored in 4K, allowing the sun-drenched coastal imagery, physical comedy, and the subtle details of Tati’s mise-en-scène to be appreciated with renewed clarity and sharpness.
