Gabrielle, 55, devotes herself heart and soul to her work. As a surgeon and department head at the hospital, she is constantly on the go, under pressure from the heavy responsibility that rests on her shoulders. She has little time left for her personal life: a loving husband and a mother who depends on her care.

Yet this is the life she wanted, the life she chose for herself. When a novelist comes to observe her at work for a book, her equilibrium begins to waver. How far is she willing to go to break free from what she has built? La vie d’une femme is a contemporary, nuanced, moving, and richly layered portrait of a woman in her fifties. Selected for the main competition at Cannes.
