The Royal Ballet | Giselle

Peter Wrights
Tue 3 Mar and Sun 5 Apr

The peasant girl Giselle has fallen in love with Albrecht. When she learns that he is actually a nobleman already engaged to someone else, she takes her own life in despair. Her spirit joins the Wilis: vengeful spirits of women who seek to kill any man they encounter by dancing him to death. Haunted by guilt, Albrecht visits Giselle’s grave, where he must face the Wilis and Giselle’s spirit.

Peter Wright’s 1985 production of this quintessentially romantic ballet is a classic in The Royal Ballet’s repertoire. With the sensitive music of Adolphe Adam and the atmospheric designs by John Macfarlane, Giselle evokes both earthly and supernatural worlds in a story of love, betrayal, and redemption.
