BLADE RUNNER
Los Angeles, 2019. The city is dark, overcrowded and almost permanently drenched in rain. Rick Deckard, a former blade runner, is assigned to track down four escaped replicants. These artificially created humans are almost indistinguishable from real people, but they have one major disadvantage: their lives last just four years.
During his search, Deckard meets Rachael, a replicant who believes she is human. From that moment on, the distinction between human and machine begins to fade. If memories can be manufactured and feelings are not exclusive to humans, what is left to define us as human?
Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner was not an obvious success when it was released in 1982. The film was slow, dark and very different from the kind of science fiction audiences had come to expect after Star Wars. Yet it went on to become one of the most influential films in the genre. Its neon-lit city, its blend of science fiction and film noir and Vangelis’ music still echo through films, series and games today.
