RELEASE Thu 18 Jun

Two women, one unlikely bond: Fuori tells the true story of how writer Goliarda Sapienza rediscovers herself in the sun-drenched Rome of 1980.

Rome, 1980. After her magnum opus The Art of Joy—a novel she spent ten years writing—is rejected by the Italian publishing world, writer Goliarda finds herself in prison for stealing jewellery. There, her encounter with a group of young inmates proves to be a life-changing experience.

Following their release, the women continue to meet throughout a sweltering summer, and Goliarda develops a deep bond with Roberta, a repeat offender and political activist. Their connection is difficult for others to understand, but through this unlikely friendship, Goliarda rediscovers the joy of living and her desire to write.

Inspired by the life of one of Italy’s most iconic authors, Goliarda Sapienza.
