Eagles of the Republic
George Fahmu (Fares Fares), the most popular film star in Egypt, is pressured into portraying President Al-Sisi in a propaganda biopic. He reluctantly accepts the role, and the uncomfortable assignment quickly takes him to the highest levels of power. As he becomes entangled in a web of corruption, paranoia, and temptation, he is confronted with a fundamental question: how much of yourself are you willing to give up in order to survive?
Eagles of the Republic was selected for the main competition of the Cannes Film Festival and was Sweden’s submission for the Oscars. In Saleh’s home country, the film won 6 Guldbagge Awards, the most important Swedish film awards, including Best Actor, Best Screenplay, and Best Film.
