Amsterdam, 1986. At the flamboyant nightclub Downtown, Ronnie, Lennart, and Bas seem untouchable. Their close friendship revolves around nights of freedom, desire, and excess, set against the backdrop of a city in constant flux. But as the first rumors about AIDS begin to circulate, the atmosphere within their world slowly shifts. While Ronnie cautiously tries to look toward the future, Lennart and Bas cling to a life that feels endless—until Bas suddenly vanishes without a trace. More than thirty years later, during the coronavirus pandemic, Ronnie unexpectedly spots Bas on the subway. He decides to organize a dinner that Lennart also attends—their first meeting in years.
