Genrelab
Familiar genres. Fresh perspectives.
From unsettling horror to boundless science fiction and fantastical worlds, genre cinema lets filmmakers and audiences follow their imaginations. In Genrelab, Natlab and BROET explore the films that make us shiver, spark our curiosity and leave us longing for the impossible.
Each edition explores a genre through the eyes of a new filmmaker. What makes that genre so compelling? Which images and stories keep returning? And what happens when a filmmaker plays with those expectations?
Genrelab invites you to rediscover familiar cinematic worlds. See how filmmakers build on the work of those who came before them, put their own spin on familiar elements and push the boundaries of a genre. For devoted fans and curious viewers who enjoy being surprised.
NATLAB × BROET
Genrelab is a collaboration between Natlab and BROET, co-organised by Luuk Audenaerde. Together, we bring filmmakers and audiences together through a shared curiosity about genre cinema. Making room for new voices, unexpected discoveries and the films that inspire people to create their own.
