Secondary education
Film brings us closer to other lives and perspectives. At Natlab, pupils and students discover how images tell stories and shape their view of the world. By watching and discussing films together, they develop visual literacy and media literacy. There is room for questions, different ideas and forming their own opinions.
A cinema visit with your class
For €7 per pupil or student, you can book a private film screening for your class or year group. Together, we choose a film that suits the group, a current topic or a particular subject area. From recent releases to classics, we’re happy to help you find a programme that makes an impression and encourages discussion.
Exploring the film further
An introduction or discussion after the screening gives pupils and students the opportunity to explore the story, the filmmaker’s choices and their own responses. They share what moves them and discover how others experience the same film. We also advise on teaching materials to prepare for the visit or continue the discussion in the classroom. Explore our programmes below.
WE LOVE STRIJP-S
Did you know that the 'red heart' is the most used emoji on Instagram? And did you know that Strijp-S is one of the most photographed places in Eindhoven? The love for this historically important area has been given a new, creative look in recent years. Natlab (the former Physics Laboratory of Philips) and MU (located in Anton & Gerard) offer an education program in which film and art come together.
Watch a surprising film programme at Natlab that connects to one or more activities at MU. MU is a groundbreaking art institute, where creative makers explore together what art can be. Discover the latest exhibitions with an interactive tour or participate in a workshop based on the theme of the film or exhibition.
This programme can be extended to a half-day program with an extra activity at De Ontdekfabriek or STRP. In this full program of We ❤️ Strijp-S, students discover different forms of art, media and technology at Strijp-S in one day!
FILM FESTIVALS
We bring educational programs from film festivals in Amsterdam closer to home, to Natlab.
IDFA
A selection of the most beautiful films of the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam, specially compiled for education. Students see documentaries that show the perception of often young protagonists in a personal and creative way. Appropriate teaching material is available for each documentary, which provides further insight based on information about the social context, filmmaker and creation of the documentary. Watching documentaries broadens students' view of the world, teaches them to think critically about what they see, and helps them form their opinion. The IDFA films and their discussion complement the subjects Dutch, Art & Culture and People & Society.
