Korean cinema is everywhere. Films such as Parasite and Oldboy have conquered international festivals, reached audiences around the world and inspired a new generation of filmmakers. But where does this creative force come from? And why are Korean directors so skilled at combining genres, social criticism and irresistible entertainment?
During K-Wave, we spend four evenings exploring the world of Korean cinema. Film lecturer Twan Arts opens the series with the masterclass The Global Impact of Korean Cinema. This is followed by three modern classics, each revealing a different side of K-Cinema: the exhilarating zombie thriller Train to Busan, the seductive game of love and deception The Handmaiden and the slow-burning mystery Burning.
Every film screening begins with a short video introduction by Twan. He provides the background and details that will help you experience the film with fresh eyes.
