Programmer Sarie In Cannes
The Cannes Film Festival is an absolute rollercoaster for the senses. From eight in the morning until deep into the night, the streets are filled with people in breathtaking gala outfits, constantly followed by camera crews. It is a magical, slightly surreal bubble where time seems to lose its grip.
To keep up with that pace, there is one golden rule: the morning has to start with a good, strong cup of coffee. The nights are short, but catching up on sleep during a film is obviously not an option. There is simply too much beauty to take in.
And what makes Cannes even more magical? Sitting in a dark cinema and realizing that you are sharing the room with world stars. As if it is the most normal thing in the world, you are watching a film in the company of Adèle Exarchopoulos, Gillian Anderson, Miles Teller, Demi Moore, Cate Blanchett and Adam Driver.
This year, all that watching was rewarded with a number of truly impressive titles. Films such as Gentle Monster, All of the Sudden, Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma and Fatherland made a big impression. But the biggest surprise of the festival came very early on. At half past eight in the morning, with a fresh coffee still in hand, I was completely blown away by Club Kid. A fantastic film with an incredible soundtrack that set the tone for the rest of the day.
Cannes is exhausting, glamorous and soaked in pure love for cinema. I would not miss it for the world.
