Waar Is Mijn Libido? + Q&A Nina Broers

From Veldhoven and Eindhoven to Breda, Toronto and back to the region. Filmmaker Nina Broers won a Student Academy Award, often referred to as the student Oscars, with Where Is My Sex Drive? She is only the fourth Dutch filmmaker and the first filmmaker from Brabant to receive the international prize. On 21 September, we screen her award-winning short film at Natlab, followed by a Q&A with Broers.

In Where Is My Sex Drive?, a young woman tries to understand what went wrong with her sexual health. She asks two actors to reenact intimate situations from her past. During these reconstructions, conflicting interpretations of what happened begin to emerge. Who gets to determine the meaning of a memory? And what happens when boundaries, intentions and consent are experienced differently?

Broers presents the film as a documentary-style making-of, although everything is carefully staged. This form exposes the power dynamics both in front of and behind the camera. The film explores consent, masculinity and control without offering the audience a simple conclusion.

Broers made Where Is My Sex Drive? while studying at St. Joost School of Art & Design in Breda. In 2025, it won the main prize in the Dutch Competition at Go Short. A year later, it received a Student Academy Award in the Alternative/Experimental category after being selected from almost three thousand international submissions.

The Academy will reveal whether Broers has won Gold, Silver or Bronze at the Toronto International Film Festival on 14 September. Exactly one week later, she will be at Natlab to present the film and talk to the audience.
