On a harsh winter night in 1899, Aimée arrives in a remote mountain village in the snow-covered French Alps. She is a young, progressive teacher, but in this community—isolated by snow and tradition—faith and legends prove to be just as powerful as letters and numbers.

With an introduction by Alliance Française!

She refuses to be discouraged by this reception and, armed with her knowledge, sets out to break through the illiteracy and stubborn superstition in the village. With every snowfall, Aimée’s involvement deepens, while an intense, sensual restlessness begins to grow within her. When an avalanche sweeps away a young villager, reality shifts and the fragile balance is disrupted. What follows is a poetic, uncanny, and at times suffocating winter folk drama, in which desire, fear, and superstition merge with the overwhelming force of nature.

ALLIANCE CINÉ

Your monthly French Film Club at Natlab, in collaboration with  Alliance Française. For lovers of French cinema. We start with a short introduction, watch together, and stay to talk afterwards. With a drink. Because sometimes a film only really begins once it’s over.
