Marta (Alba Rohrwacher) is a physical education teacher at a secondary school in Rome. She lives with Antonio (Elio Germano), a chef whose career is on the rise. After a trivial argument, Antonio abruptly ends their relationship.
While Antonio throws himself into his work, Marta tries to rebuild her life while coping with grief. At school, she devotes herself to her students and finally begins to respond to the advances of a colleague. But when she discovers that her lack of appetite has nothing to do with the breakup, her life is turned upside down, and she comes to realize the true value of life.
