Trafic (4K Restoration)

Jacques Tati
RELEASE Thu 30 Jul

Trafic follows Monsieur Hulot, a graphic designer at the company Altra, who has designed an experimental, technologically equipped caravan. Together with the vehicle, he travels along the highways of France and Belgium towards the Amsterdam motor show, where the model is to be presented to the public and potential buyers.

What should have been a simple, businesslike journey quickly turns into a succession of problems: mechanical breakdowns, technical failures, a customs inspection, and an accident all cause constant delays.

The film has also been restored in 4K, allowing the sharpness of modern infrastructure, vehicles, and the visual details of Tati’s choreographed chaos to stand out once again.

Trafic is a quintessential Jacques Tati work in which humour arises from delay, miscommunication, and the fragile illusion of efficiency in a hyper-motorised world.
