When Ainara tells her family that she is considering entering a convent, it sparks a range of reactions. Her father has doubts but above all wants to support his daughter. Her atheist aunt Maite believes her niece is about to throw her life away. Does she truly want this, or has she been influenced by the spiritual guidance at her school?
Los Domingos by Spanish director Alauda Ruiz de Azúa (Dicen, Cinco Lobitos) offers plenty of material for discussion, exploring both the positive aspects and the downsides of Ainara’s religious calling. At the same time, it raises questions about tolerance, indoctrination, conformity, and personal freedom. Through subtle observations and sharp dialogue, the film creates a compelling portrait of a young girl trying to find her own path.
The film was a major success in Spain, winning no fewer than five Goya Awards, including Best Film and Best Director. Los Domingos had its world premiere at the San Sebastián International Film Festival, where it won five awards, including the Golden Shell for Best Film. In the Netherlands, the film premiered at the International Film Festival Rotterdam.

Through Her Lens is an international film night that centres female perspectives. Everyone is welcome and no membership is required. We screen films made by women or stories told through their lens, followed by space for conversation and connection.
