Due to staff shortages, the skilled doctor Alexandra (Özlem Saglanmak, known from Borgen) has to work two shifts at the same time in the emergency room. When she sends 18-year-old patient Oliver and his mother (Trine Dyrholm) home due to lack of time and Oliver suffers a life-threatening stroke a few minutes later, Alexandra begins to doubt herself. Feelings of guilt and recriminations reverberate through the hospital corridors, and Alexandra is confronted with the emotional consequences of a medical error. Second Victims shows that doctors are just as much victims of the failing healthcare system. The film is a huge success in Denmark and has been named the best film of the year.
