Successful forty-year-old conductor Julia and her partner desperately want children. At an exclusive private clinic, a fertility specialist promises a solution through experimental treatment, which ultimately leads to pregnancy. However, the delivery is chaotic and their newborn baby is immediately taken away for further care, without any clear explanation. When mother and child are later reunited, Julia experiences a disturbing distance. The arrival of the baby puts her relationship with her partner under severe strain, especially when she develops an oppressive feeling that the child they took home may not be hers.
