L'affaire Bojarski
During the World War II, Jan Bojarski, a young Polish engineer, takes refuge in France, where he uses his creative talents to forge documents for the Resistance. But the freedom that follows the war brings him little stability. Without official residency status, Bojarski is unable to patent his many inventions and is forced to survive on poorly paid jobs. That changes when a gangster recognizes his extraordinary talent and proposes that he counterfeit banknotes. Without his family’s knowledge, Bojarski embarks on a dangerous double life. Before long, his flawless forgeries attract the attention of Inspector Mattei, who will stop at nothing to bring him down.
L’Affaire Bojarski is a gripping blend of crime thriller, love story, and psychological drama. The film is inspired by the life of Jan Bojarski, known as the Cézanne of counterfeiters. His perfect reproductions—often considered more beautiful than the original banknotes—caused major headaches for the Banque de France during the 1950s and 1960s.
The film is directed by Jean-Paul Salomé (La Syndicaliste). The role of Jan Bojarski is brilliantly performed by Reda Kateb, known for his acclaimed performances in The Specials (Hors normes) and A Prophet (Un prophète).
