RELEASE Thu 11 Dec

The moving and true love story of Fleur and Julian, inspired by Fleur Pierets' book, is Belgian director Cato Kusters' feature film debut. After a brief encounter at a concert, the two women quickly fall madly in love and make plans for the future. They want to get married and come up with an intriguing idea. Would it be possible to say “I do” in every country where it is legal?

Project 22, named after the number of countries where same-sex marriage was legal in 2017, quickly took shape. After just four ceremonies, their journey is abruptly interrupted and they are forced to unexpectedly abandon their plans.

Julian is inspired by the book of the same name by author Fleur Pierets. Cato wrote the screenplay together with Angelo Tijssens (Girl, Close). Julian is the first production by The Reunion, the production company of Michiel Dhont and Lukas Dhont, and is co-produced by Topkapi Film and the Dardenne brothers (Les Films du Fleuve). The chemistry between Belgian actress Laurence Roothooft (Julian) and French actress Nina Meurisse (Fleur), a rising star thanks to her roles in recent films by Céline Sciamma and Boris Lojkine, reinforces the impact of the story.
