I was a Stranger

Brandt Andersen
RELEASE Thu 9 Apr

A doctor, a soldier, a human smuggler, a father, and a captain. Each with their own story, each on their own journey.

Their paths cross when, forced by the Syrian civil war to leave everything behind, they set out on a desperate search for safety and a place where they can truly belong.

Set across four countries and inspired by true stories from the front lines of the refugee crisis, this powerful drama — featuring, among others, Omar Sy — portrays the heartbreaking pain, constant danger, and fragile beauty of people who, against all odds, find the courage to start over, even when the world seems to have nothing left to offer them.

The film was awarded the Amnesty International Film Award at the Berlin International Film Festival in 2024 and will be released in cinemas from April 9, 2026.
