RELEASE Thu 9 Apr

César Augusto Acevedo’s long-awaited second feature film (following La Tierra y la Sombra, which won the Caméra d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival in 2015) is a magical-realist, psychological, and philosophical drama in which the cinematography of the Latin American landscape becomes a third main character.

Basilio (Claudio Cataño) returns to his home and to his mother Inés (Paulina García). He has been missing for a long time and is now, like his mother, deceased. The two spirits have found no peace. They embark on a spiritual journey in search of Basilio’s missing father, hoping for redemption from the wrong decisions they made during their lives.

Together, they travel across their war-torn country, futilely attempting to make contact with the living along the way. Slowly but surely, they come to realize that great sacrifices are required to free themselves from their situation.

The film explores the destructive nature of humanity and our need to dominate others, in whatever way possible.
