Six short films, six distinct voices and the filmmakers themselves in the cinema. During Fresh Meet: Queer Edition, BROET hands the big screen to a new generation of queer filmmakers. The programme features Airborne, Not Built to Last, Alma, Kocham cię, Nox Aeterna and Amé.

The films differ in form, tone and style, but each emerges from a personal story and a distinct perspective. Their makers explore identity, sexuality, intimacy, memory and the search for a place where you can be yourself. Expect live action, dance, animation and visual experimentation.

Every short film is followed by a Q&A with its filmmaker. Instead of saving the conversation until the end of a long programme, you can respond directly to what you have just seen. Where did the idea come from? Which choices shaped the film? And what is it like to share a personal story with a full cinema?

BROET created Fresh Meet to give young and emerging filmmakers a platform. Their work deserves more than a laptop screen. It deserves great sound, a dark cinema and an audience that watches, asks questions and stays to talk afterwards.

Meet the filmmakers

Nigel Lievaart | Airborne
Nigel Lievaart is a director, animator and storyboard artist. He graduated from the HKU University of the Arts Utrecht and teaches at the Willem de Kooning Academy. Drawing on his love of traditional 2D animation, he explores how nostalgia can comfort us, but also hold us back.

Deniz Arıkan | Not Built to Last
Deniz Arıkan is a Turkish-Dutch filmmaker with a background in architecture. His work connects identity, memory and human relationships to the urban environment. His debut film Not Built to Last premiered at IFFR and was selected for both the Golden Calf Competition and the Debut Competition at the Netherlands Film Festival.

Alicia Muñoz Reyes | Alma
Born in Havana and based in Amsterdam, Alicia Muñoz Reyes trained as a screenwriter at the Netherlands Film Academy. She works across film, writing and education. Her short debut Alma, about the liberating power of forgiveness, won the Audience Award at the Las Americas Film Festival in The Hague.

Denise de Lange | Kocham cię
Denise de Lange is a filmmaker and screenwriter who graduated from St. Joost School of Art & Design in 2024. Her work focuses on family, love and personal growth. Kocham cię was selected for the student competition at the Netherlands Film Festival and screened internationally at Wicked Queer in Boston.

Rosita Safakisch and Xenia Lodewijks | Nox Aeterna
Rosita Safakisch is a director and photographer working between fashion and art. Her images combine intimacy and tension, often blurring the boundary between reality and imagination. Xenia Lodewijks works across photography, film and spatial art. Her personal and often surreal work explores psychology, femininity, intimacy and impermanence.

Lizzy Hubers | Amé
Lizzy Hubers makes personal films about feminism, sexuality and queer identity. Dance and body language play an important role in her work. By bringing movement and cinema together, she gives form to vulnerable emotions that cannot always be expressed in words.

After the final screening block, the conversation continues at the bar. Meet the filmmakers, ask questions and discuss their work over a drink.
