Film & Food | Le Pot-au-feu

Film & Food brings great cinema and great food together. This edition is devoted entirely to French cuisine, first at the table and then on the big screen.

Dinner is served at Natlab 90 minutes before the film begins. On the menu is pot-au-feu, a traditional French beef stew. Prefer a meat-free meal? A vegetarian version is also available. After dinner, head to the cinema for Le Pot-au-feu, a sensory film about cooking, love and the care that goes into preparing something for another person.

France, 1885. The brilliant cook Eugénie has worked for celebrated gourmet Dodin Bouffant for twenty years. In the kitchen, the two move in perfect harmony. Over time, their shared passion for food has also developed into a romance. Yet Eugénie values her independence and repeatedly turns down Dodin’s marriage proposals. He therefore decides to do something he has never done before: cook for her.

Director Trần Anh Hùng captures French cuisine with patience and close attention. Dishes are prepared, tasted and shared, while the relationship between Eugénie and Dodin unfolds through small gestures. Juliette Binoche and Benoît Magimel play two people who know each other intimately, but do not necessarily want the same things from the future.
