The film won the prestigious Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year and, like Panahi's previous films, was made without the consent of the Iranian regime. Director Jafar Panahi was himself sentenced to six years in prison and banned from working. He drew on his own experiences in "It Was Just an Accident," which he filmed without the permission of the Iranian regime after his release. His film has been met with unanimous acclaim abroad.
