Rode Tulp Film Festival
Sat 6 Jun 17:30

This program is part of the Red Tulip Festival. The Red Tulip Film Festival is the only annual Turkish film festival in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, and Eindhoven, presenting the very best of contemporary Turkish cinema. The Eindhoven edition of the festival is organized by Turkish Professionals Network Eindhoven (TPN-E).

In ATLET, the camera enters the charged, unforgiving world of competitive weightlifting through the eyes of a young woman standing at the edge of her first international breakthrough. Raised in poverty yet driven by discipline, she trains with a determination that borders on defiance. But as she approaches the championship stage, the glossy façade of elite sport begins to crack.

What unfolds is a stark, intimate portrait of a system built on patriarchal power, where women’s bodies are scrutinized, controlled, and commodified. Faced with a near‑impossible choice between a slim chance at success and her own ethical boundaries, the protagonist confronts the hidden machinery of an industry that demands obedience at the cost of dignity.

With its raw realism and unflinching gaze, ATLET exposes the moral fractures beneath the medals. It is a story of resistance, self‑respect, and the courage to reclaim one’s identity in a world determined to shape it.
