exposition Mitchell van Eijk

On April 23, Op de Hoogte, the first photography exhibition by Mitchell van Eijk, will be on view at Natlab. The exhibition presents more than 25 photographic works that capture the changing urban landscape of Eindhoven. From various heights and viewpoints, Mitchell explores how the city evolves and how architecture, space, and perspective together shape the character of the urban environment.

Op de Hoogte is a continuation of Mitchell’s ongoing practice, in which Eindhoven has long been a recurring subject. His work examines how the urban environment influences the way we see and experience the world around us. For the first time, the exhibition brings together an extensive selection of this research in a cohesive photographic series, developed in collaboration with Architectuurcentrum Eindhoven.

Many of the photographs are taken from elevated perspectives: from rooftops, high-rise apartments, or from his own window overlooking the skyline of Strijp-S. This vantage point offers a sense of overview, revealing patterns in architecture, light, and space, and allowing the city to appear almost like a landscape. Op de Hoogte invites visitors to experience the city and its transformation more consciously and to reflect on the role of people within it.

MITCHELL VAN EIJK
Mitchell van Eijk has worked as an independent photographer for architects since 2017 and also develops his own photographic projects. The city is a recurring starting point in his work. As a born-and-raised resident of Eindhoven, he has been following the changes in his hometown’s cityscape for years.

In addition to his urban photography, Mitchell focuses on the relationship between people, homes, and their surroundings. For his long-term project Where Water Whispers, he travels to different parts of the world to capture the daily lives of people who live in direct connection with water. The encounters that emerge from these journeys create an intimate portrait of places where home, landscape, and people are intertwined.
