While working on a composition for Ida Rubinstein, an extravagant Russian choreograph, composer Maurice Ravel loses himself in self-criticism and in memories of past failures. Though the bruising city has plenty of inspiration, he is not able to put the pen to paper. The approaching deadline only makes his writer's block worse, until... suddenly a rhythm reveals itself and an exciting, sensual melody is created: 'Boléro'.
