Rome 1946, during the aftermath of the second-world-war. Delia is fighting for a better life. A mysterious letter unchains her courage to break the traditional household-wife role.

★★★★ - NRC | ★★★★ - Trouw

Delia and Ivano live together, with their children and Ivano's sickly father, in a basement home in a typical Roman courtyard. It is the year 1946 and Rome is balancing between the whirl and the shortcomings of the recent years of war. Delia takes on the traditional role as wife and mother, making ends meet. Ivano, the patrias familias, working hard to bring back a little bit of money, does not miss any opportunity to mention this, sometimes condescending and sometimes heavy-handed. He only fears his manipulating father, for who Delia is an easy caretaker.

It is spring and the family is excited about the engagement of their daughter Marcella with a mid-class boy. Delia sees this as Marcella's chance to evade the same fate. But everything changed when Delia receives a mysterious letter, which encouraged her to strive for a better life - and not only for herself...

Inspired by the stories of grandmothers and great-grandmothers.
