Build a city for 600,000 inhabitants in a valley outside Kathmandu. After winning the competition, the Finnish architecture firm Helin&Co set to work. What follows is a culture clash between an organized, Western way of thinking and small-scale traditional life in Nepal. Maarten Willems, lecturer at TU/e, will host a discussion after the film.

The discussion is English spoken and the film has English subtitles.

The movie, directed by Finnish filmmaker Kati Juurus, follows the Finnish architectural company Helin&Co as they embark on building a city for 600,000 people in a valley near Kathmandu, Nepal. Juurus’ film exposes the deep-rooted differences between these two worlds in a sometimes hilarious way and shows the persistent attempts of the Finnish architects to create order in the apparent chaos of a misunderstood culture.

This film will be shown by Architectuurcentrum Eindhoven in collaboration with the study association AnArchi TU/e and Natlab.
