In Matt and Mara, Mara, a literature professor struggling with the demands of life — a new baby who needs her attention and a husband, Samir, who seems emotionally absent — runs into an old acquaintance: her best friend from college, the charismatic and slightly neurotic writer Matt.
Following their renewed connection, the two begin spending a lot of time together. They share silly jokes, engage in intense conversations, push each other away, and pull each other back in. What is the nature of this friendship? And how close is it to becoming an (adulterous) romantic relationship?
Matt and Mara had its world premiere at the Berlin Film Festival, in the influential Encounters section (now discontinued). Radwanski’s film was also named Best Film at the Las Palmas Film Festival.
