Wang Bing, one of our greatest contemporary filmmakers, follows the intimidating daily labor of young textile workers in Zhili and captures the invisible reality of China's extraordinary local economy.
Zhili, 150 km from Shanghai. In this city dedicated to textile production, young workers come from all the rural areas crossed by the Yangtze River. They are in their early 20s, sharing dorm rooms and chatting in the hallways. They work tirelessly so that one day they can start a family, buy a house or set up their own workshop. Between them, friendships and love affairs are made and broken depending on the seasons, bankruptcies and family pressures.
