Whoever becomes a police officer in Thailand is automatically offered an apartment for their entire family in the local "police flats." It is in one of these blocks that Jane and Ann grow up together, separated by floors but also by status. As the daughter of a not-always-honest sergeant, Jane enjoys a life of relative comfort, while her best friend Ann carries the weight of her family after the death of her father. When a young police officer named Tong moves into the building, the dynamic between Jane and Ann begins to shift. Budding love, jealousy, shattered dreams, and the stark difference in their social backgrounds start to crack their once-unbreakable bond.
Flat Girls explores how money and status seep into every layer of Thai society, while also portraying the country's growing openness, where being queer is increasingly becoming part of the norm.
