The unemployed Ki-taek and his family live a poor life in a cramped home. They become increasingly fascinated by the wealthy Park family and see an opportunity to benefit from their luxurious lifestyle. Little by little, the family manages to insert themselves into the Parks' lives, having no qualms about telling a few white lies for their own gain. However, an unexpected incident throws everything into chaos, forcing them to do whatever it takes to maintain their new way of life.
